Reflections of a Rock Lobster chronicles the true story of Aaron Fricke, a 17 year-old gay student in Cumberland, Rhode Island who found himself a reluctant celebrity when he sued his public high school for the right to escort his boyfriend to his high school prom in 1980. Citing a ”real and present threat of physical harm to [Fricke], [his] male escort and to others…” his principal refused. The case Fricke vs. Lynch and Cumberland High School became a landmark Supreme Court decision and a national media sensation, concluding with a surprising and heart-warming expression of hope and harmony shared among gay and straight teens.
