I don't give a damn anymore about conversations
I thought this post was appropriate considering the conversations taking place on the Net, in the corridors of the great publishing houses and amongst writers. However I have also been very diligent in getting as much information as possible on these conversations. My source is the Net primarily. And I have clipped, linked to and written about the publishing world as well. What happened is that I have come full circle__back to going to the cafe to write and having fun. Period.
I don't give a damn anymore about these conversations. Furthermore I don't care how much an expert someone purports to be, or is identified as an expert so that someone can write about the publishing world's demise. The reality is if someone were truly getting it then there would be valid measurable results__and I don't see any.
The conversation is infinity and the future of publishing is unclear. Its trial and error and fickle. Where should I be putting my attention? Writing of course.
I'm 54 and probably got 20 years left in me. By the time I get published what form it will take is whatever it will be. In the meantime I will have written another 11 books and be completely free of the stress these conversations have been giving me.
If anyone cares here's my advice. Write your books and send them to publishers and get published. Don't ever quit because of the fear that is perpetrated by these conversations about the publishing business. Write as well and as honest as you can. The good books will be found and they will be published.
To think of wearing any other hat other than the hat of writer is like shooting yourself in the foot when your out hunting for food for your belly. You won't eat.
