Ordinary Things

A crow caws over the garden as if to herald  a bad omen. I escape back through the open door, into

the cello that bathes the room with tentative hope. I peel the potatoes until swirls of skin become a tangle

of distorted notes scrawled on ceramic. I scoop the limp tendrils up into my hands and relinquish them

to the bin. Naked potatoes glisten by the window where sunlight falls with benevolence. Like freshly

plucked  pebbles from the shore, their glory is only temporary, as the potatoes like the pebbles quickly

lose their  sheen, almost immediately, in the blink of an eye, they too become like, ordinary things. I

put diamonds of salt into a pot of liquid sea. I add the potatoes one at a time. A reassuring plop confirms

receipt. The sea gradually bubbles to a boil. I turn the dial to simmer. Simmer might take a little longer

but the result is worth it. Time irrelevant.

I love the way you see things. Ron is so right, perspective is so important!

Hope you are having a great day, Mary.

Thanks Ryoma, as always. Dreary day here in the west of Ireland, grey and wet. I made a Rabbit Casserole for dinner and hubby contributed two fabulous salads. A bottle of red was just the thing to complete the meal and warm the heart...I hope you are both having a cosy Sunday, perhaps sharing good conversation over some to-die-for coffee! M

Sounds like a wonderful day.

I have no idea what the weather is like outside, haven't looked today. Gina and myself have been killing zombies and other monsters on our Playstation, accompanied by strawberry cables (like strawberry laces, except the have fondant in the centre) and will be settling down to a take out pizza tonight. :) No coffee yet, but plenty of conversation as usual, in between screams requesting help as one of us gets 'chomped' by a zombie. A fun Sunday so far!

Beautiful, Mary. Such fine housewifery is no ordinary thing.
