Champagne for Breakfast
I drank champagne with my bagel for breakfast. I'm celebrating publication day for DIRTY WORDS! It's an odd day in the publishing experience -- you kind of expect big things to happen, but then... well, it's another day. Books started appearing in bookstores over the past week and I had my first sighting at Keplers (my local independent book store) on Saturday. I took pictures of my book on the front table, of my poster for Wednesday's reading, of my books displayed in the front window. It is truly a thrill -- that's mine, I wanted to tell everyone. My book! (well, they must have known something odd was going on, since I was snapping away with my camera and making little oh oh oh sounds.) And today -- well, even if nothing special happens, I'm going to celebrate. My book is out in the world. I'm not going to worry about sales and reviews and whether my sister is shocked by what I wrote (she will be) -- today I'm just basking in the glow of it all. I wrote another book. It got published. I love it.

On the breakfast front...
Congratulations on your release!
Bagels and champagne... perfect.
Some weeks ago, a friend of mine, a fellow chef and producer of olive oils, told me he was cooking a Mother's Day brunch for one of his clients, a very successful author... "waffles, caviar, and cigarettes" is all he said about the menu.
