NaNoWriMo 2008

- About ten minutes ago, I officially broke 50k. I am now a NaNoWriMo winner and author of my own novel. :) And it feels... AMAZING.I won NaNoWriMo 2008 with 50,061... though in reality I haven't even gotten to the half way point of my novel. It's been a long journey getting to that 50k. There was a point where I didn't think I'd make it at all. (It was excruciatingly difficult to shush my inner ...

- After missing the NaNoWriMo train last year, I'm back on board and finished hours early! Gotta love a month full of ignoring the rest of the world in favor of writing morning, noon and night.

- I wonder if I could write a book about losing weight through this NaNoWriMo thing. It seems I lost three pounds during the 24 days I was writing -- almost a pound a week or, as it turned out, a pound every 20,000 words. It wasn’t that writing made me eat healthier, or even eat less. I usually write with a cup of coffee laced with half and half by my side. Then I’ll add ...

- I have never written a novel nor a short story since school. I have written music and comedy and cabaret shows but my 'muse' was rebelling and refusing to play ball for the last couple months.November 11th, I was in a pub in Covent Garden and I had an idea for a book. Not that I wanted to write a book but either way the question 'how long does it take to write a novel' stayed with me til I ...

- After deciding to participate in NaNoWriMo 2008, I picked up Chris Baty's book 'No plot? No Problem!' and read up at the NaNoWriMo web site. Chris said that the "someday" to write a novel was today and that you might as well just give yourself a goal and sit down and write. It didn't have to be great; it just had to be built, one word at a time. I thought, "Why ...

- All the times I thought I'd bag it - I'm glad I didn't. It feels great to have this huge pile of words. NaNoWrimo is such a great way to get the first blast of ideas and possible story threads onto the page. Now comes the shaping, reshaping, editing, polishing. I love those parts too. Onward!

- crouching on the floor with my Asus Eee, plugged to internet and pounding those last 78 words that I had to add (and that turned out to be 200something words, because I had to start a new scene), and yelling at my kids who suddenly (for the first time in this day) realized how badly they needed me."I did it, I wrote it!" I screamed."Great! Now you won't have to write any ...

- Woot, at 4:00 pm sydney time I finished my first NaNoWriMo. Then I got to look back and think where to from here? do I let Brooke and Michael have that talk? Do I throw them straight into another confrontation with a shadow of their world? Do I finally show why Jason is afraid of his father? Or maybe I'll go back and start editing... ooor I could always meet up with the friends I neglected over ...

- Wow.I don't know whether to be relieved or sad that NaNoWriMo is finally coming to a close (Though, at the moment, I'm more on the relieved side, with a touch of anxiety, because I have not yet reached my personal goal of 75,000 words--about 7K more to go!)I've definitely done better this year than last. And I've killed myself over it a lot more. But I can definitely see results--Anya's Story is ...

- I wasn't sure that I was going to make it, but I slaved away today and wrote over 10,000 words to push me across the finish line! I cannot express how elated I feel at having accomplished my goal. I wrote a novel! How many people can say that they've done that? I only hope that I'll have the perseverance to edit it into something worth reading. I have enjoyed the past month immensely, ...
