One of the key pieces of advice the creative writing faculty give to our entering graduate students is to make time for writing.  Grad school requires so much of us all, there are many tasks, and they pull in different directions.  One has to present a public face...

Will I manage to squeeze in all that time I meant to spend lazing around in front of Project Runway, petting the cat?  So far, I have been...

Hello everyone. It's been a while. Guess what? I've been busy with the Big Secret Project.  I read, over on inkygirl.com [daily diversions for writers) that Ann Aguire writes her first draft in 30 days. 30 days?!! This crazy-productive lady must be typing in her sleep! I don't know how anybody can...

It's not the day job that I resent. The day job, I like just fine. It's well-paid and rewarding and it gets me home in time to have enough time to spend serious time writing. It's the other things I resent - the must-do menial tasks that eat into writing time, keeping me away from my desk and tied...

After I get up I will have 2 (two) cups of tea and pet the cat and feed the cat, and after I have fed the cat and had my 2 (two) cups of tea I will go to the allotment to catch up on everything that needs to be done. After I have weeded and planted and cut back the raspberry canes and watered (...

Nothing says the beginning of Winter like putting the clocks back. All of a sudden, we're plunged into darkness, getting ready for work before the sun rises and coming home after it's set. Spend your day in an environment where there isn't much light - a wrong-facing office, say, or an internal...
