People constantly have weather on their minds. When I scroll down my Facebook news feed, I see that topic more than perhaps any other.
As far as I can tell, that's what my dogs spend much of their day thinking about, too: "It's cold. Where's the sun? Ah, there it is! Hurray! Life is good! Oh, no....

Yesterday in my neighborhood it felt like summer for the first time all year. It was as hot inside as outside. It was as hot in the shade as in the sun. I was dogged by lethargy and depression, and I thought, Oh, no - here we go again.
Of all the weather that I dread, summer is the worst. The heat...

Spring is a sketchy business where I come from. It comes and goes with the day, one day warm, one day cool again, like a boat trying to right itself in choppy water. Then you can wake up on some random Tuesday and not even see that the boat is under full sail, gliding out across a calm...

Here's to Nicole Griffin, debut author. She made her way to the launch party for her book "The Whole Stupid Way We Are". I don't know anything else about her or her book, but she met three dozen fans despite 28 inches of snowfall in Cambridge, MA, over the previous weekend.
That's...

I have always had issues with weather accessories. I understand summer heat and my clothes are for summer, and I understand winter cold so I dress for winter, but when the weather does things like rain or snow, I really don't dress well. I get wet, my feet get wet, my pant legs get...

Photo: Captain Nemo planting his personal flag on a cliff of Antarctica, from the first edition of Jules Verne's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.
There won't be much to do in the next few days, besides shoveling, so I thought I'd keep a running blog entry during that time. I'll publish...

I believe that statement . . . do you?
Today in Southwest Louisiana we are treated to clear skies and a delightful 74 degree temperature. I'd like nothing better than to be sitting outside sipping a white chocolate mocha at Starbucks. Instead, I'm cooped up inside, trying to stay on task so that I...
