Yesterday in my neighborhood it felt like summer for the first time all year. It was as hot inside as outside. It was as hot in the shade as in the sun. I was dogged by lethargy and depression, and I thought, Oh, no - here we go again. Of all the weather that I dread, summer is the worst. The heat...

Spring is a sketchy business where I come from.  It comes and goes with the day, one day warm, one day cool again, like a boat trying to right itself in choppy water.  Then you can wake up on some random Tuesday and not even see that the boat is under full sail, gliding out across a calm...

I'm eating the summer's blackberries with my breakfast and watching snow bunnies slipping down through a gray sky.  Snow bunnies are like flurries, but fatter and more playful on the wind.  White sprays outline evergreens and denuded maple and oak trees, and plays hide and seek with the...

The seasons are moving quickly on us, as though, once decided, they want to get done.  The rest of nature doesn't seem as sure about what's going on. Lawns are still green.  The cherry tomato plants are still blossoming and we just 'harvested' a few strawberries from our little plant...

Ah, like the changing of the seasons, so it's time for computer issues.   They are cyclical in their own way, following some sort of electronic cosmic flow.  There is a logic to it but The week before, I wrote about issues with the MacBook Pro and its sudden inability to make a secure...

earth did not open up to swallow showers arid soil clung to flowers of a wilting summer waited for you wiping stains of lips pressed against glass eyes searching clouds for your face joyful tears your voice choked silence waited days stretching months breaking waited you burst today in spasms I am...

The birds are back. Some never left. A few are leaving or hiding. Nest construction and repair are underway. I awaken to sun and chirping. Bulbs are sprouting. Sammy Da Nose, our dog, is shedding his winter coat and so are we. It’s spring in Ohio.  In the Virgin Islands where I grew up,...
