ON SHELVES IN PAPERBACK THIS WEEK
I’m excited to get acquainted with the Hannah Vogel series, not merely because of its captivating book jacket and intriguing plot – I don’t usually read mystery – but because the author appears to be one of those genuine, real however successful, people one...

Amanda Hocking is in a unique position to detail the differences (and similarities) of producing and selling eBooks and paper books. Putting aside her own fame and success (for this would not happen to everyone) this is still an informative description of the different routes taken by the same book...

I've had the argument with other authors about 'book reviews'. I contend that if 100 people read a good review, 50 people will by the book. What with the Los Angeles Review willing to chip in an opinion on select self-pub books, writers have now turned a corner. There is a plethora of ways to gain editorial comments, obtain publication, and some strategic publicity for such books. Of course, you have to pay your own way to...

I admit it: I'm terrible when it comes to promoting my books.
As an indie author/publisher, that can lead to some awkward mental exchanges:
Publisher: (plaintively) Can't we do something to raise your profile?
Author: (firmly) The work should speak for itself.
Publisher: But...

I contacted several big name bookstores to kick off the second leg of my summer book tour. The manager of a Northern California Barnes and Noble bookstore said she was not scheduling any book tours unless she could be guaranteed a minimum of 100 books sold during the reading. When...
