We were encouraged to share a particular photo with Redroom for this month. The one I've chosen is not only good photography, but represents my view of winter, and of life. I do all of my own professional photography, both for personal enjoyment and for the covers of my books. My father, Major...

I have an MFA in photography from the San Francisco Art Institute, which I traded in for a life in poetry, memoir, and now a novel. Go figure. Most of my recent work (15 years ago) is on www.greenmuseum.org. Otherwise here's a shot from back in the day.

The egrets were flying. The tree was bending. I happened to be there, camera poised. One click was all it took.

From photography's invention in the 1830s until Kodak introduced the first Brownie cameras in 1900, only professionals produced photos, and at great expense. More affordable and portable after that, photography began to reflect and shape our lives. This week, please post the best photo you've ever...

With revolutions in the Middle East and the United States’ current Occupy Wall Street movement dominating media reports throughout  2011, the International Year for People of African Descent  as declared by the United Nations has received little attention but that didn’t stop the...

I love photography.  It is a poem, as opposed to film, which is a novel.  In his "Treatise on Painting" Leonardo Da Vinci wrote that painting (also a photograph), is poetry that is seen rather than felt, and poetry is painting that is felt rather than seen.  I couldn't agree more...

After 3 years of procrastinating I finally went to the homeless shelter in our neighborhood and proposed a documentary video class I've always wanted to do. Met with amazing enthusiasm, the director said they could afford a photography class and so my 'Telling Stories with Pictures" class was born...
