Well, for the second year, I have completed the National Novel Writing Month competition.  Although, this year, the story isn't finished, I can now relax and complete the book at my own leisure. I'd like to thank Chris Baty and his team for the work they do each year.  This year, I'm in the throes...

In case you missed the title of the blog, how is my Nanowrimo novel coming? Blah. It started off so well. I've been doing essays for six months now so writing fiction at first was just fun. No navel gazing, no admitting how I screwed up one day. Just write! Make stuff up! It's fun! Then I got...

so sorry that I haven't blogged in the last few days. I had some issues at home and then I couldn't get into my redroom account. But, its all fixed now and I'm going to catch you up. I have been busily writing and have finished, or rather reached the 50,000 word mark. I'm not ready to call it a...

This just appeared in my inbox. I also adore Meg Cabot.   Dear NaNoWriMo Author, I know what you’re doing.  You’re thinking about cheating, aren’t you? Ha!  Caught you!  Come on.  One cheater knows another.  You think I’ve never been there?  Maybe for some of you it’s not too late: you...

This week I showed my students Adaptation, written by Charlie Kaufman and directed by Spike Jonze, a free-wheeling adaptation of Susan Orlean's nonfiction book The Orchid Thief. The metafictive film is as much about writing as it is about orchids, maybe even more so, and it occurred to me as I was...

A moment of madness induced me to sign up for NaNoWriMo, spurred on by a number of very excited writers who were telling me that it was the most fun you could have with your clothes on. It began so well, and I had four thousand words down in no time. There I was, telling me how, if I'd put my mind...

Okay, this is going to harder than I thought. Today I reached 10,421 words in the National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) annual push, but I'm worried. What if I don't have enough story to get me to the end of this? Fifty-thousand words is a lot, and while I initially thought I was okay, um, this...

Hey! I've made it to the second weekend of Nano, granted the first one was the first 2 days of this month. I've hit the 30K mark and am hoping to make it up and over 50K by Monday or Tuesday at the lastest. Then I'm not sure what I'll endeavor to do...of course the story may not want to end at ...

Well, its day 6 and I have completed over half of the required 50k. I'm at 25,100. The story is starting to put out nicely and is pulling together in some manner that may represent a novel when completed. Of course it is starting to run off by itself, which it is a good thing and something that I...

I've been diverted by other novel events, but back to my own.  It's almost a letdown after watching so much politics.  The weight of history is heavy and I wonder now how it's carried.  We write weighty words, measured for effect, launched like catapults into other hands.  During this past...
