I put Baby, my Underwood 5 "Touchmaster" up for sale on eBay.   I typed on one of these during summer camp in the Marine Corps Reserves. It was  the summer of the moon landing, the summer of '69 when I met my father for the first time. I was twenty-four. Tappity-tap-tap, slide......

It's a hot summer night, but Mom and I are inside the house watching television. Most evenings I would be out with the gang, playing hide and seek, Red Rover, or freeze tag. We could be sitting in the dark backyard telling ghost stories, or catching fireflies in old mayonnaise jars. But, no one is...

I'm forty-six years old in October and I'm still building plastic model kits.  I don't know if this is a sign of creeping dementia or an indication I've never really grown up. I especially love any kit associated with old TV shows or the space age.  I own everything from an Area 51 alien space...

Hard to believe but it's true.  Forty years since Neil and Buzz tromped around up there on ol' Luna, while Mike Collins circled overhead, their ticket home and the only ride going their way for a quarter of a million miles. The moon has been much on my mind this year--and through my reminiscences...

Remember when astronauts used to be cool? I mean, they still are. But when I was four, the moon landing happened, and even before that everything was compared to "rocket science." We can now insert "if they can clone a sheep ... " but I still prefer the moon landing. More...
