It has been almost two weeks now since the Boston Marathon ended in a nightmarish terrorist attack; it has been nine days since Boston was paralyzed by a manhunt and Watertown was a battleground. The news cycles are moving on. But among the elements of the story that will stay with me a long time...

Training for a marathon is a taxing, physical, emotional and expensive process. For me personally, that means five cortisone shots, almost a hundred physical therapy appointments and a few arguments with my wife. Why do it? Why climb a mountain? Why be a police officer? Why be an emergency room...

Photo is on my Profile Page, but isn't attached here.  ? ? At precisely 10 p.m. last evening I crossed the finish line! The marathon ended--successfully. What began in January this year (see Jan 17 blog entry), became a one-day-a-week activity. That was more than I actually thought I'd achieve...
