When my daughter’s 1st-grade class interviewed me five years ago, they wanted to know what I do when I complete a novel and when told that I clean my office, they thought I should instead celebrate by eating popcorn and dancing – this still strikes me as eminently good advice.

Just because it seems like everyone in publishing takes off a month from work in December and most of the summer off, it does not mean it is a good idea for you to imitate this failed strategy.
