He might smirk at me and spit out that I am a romantic capitalist. Torun Honda, guru of the 2-D love movement, believes if you shun 3-D relationships your cup will runneth over. We are given the example of Nisan who shares his home, his parents, his innermost secrets with Nemutan. He rubs her leg...

I always find it hard to focus on writing when the weather is (finally) gorgeous. Of course, this week in Seattle, it’s a little toasty (okay, it’s freaking HOT: 94 currently — forecast of 97 tomorrow). But whether you’re enjoying the weather or trying to escape it, summer can generally be tough...

Because I teach online pretty much 24/7, 365, I can't remember a time in recent years when I went anywhere without internet access.  I've never done one of those technological cleanses that others have touted as beneficial to the soul (goodness, can you imagine the dark splats on my soul right now...

In a short story collection of Musgrave’s caliber, the dilemma becomes which tale to review from The Mayan Magician and Other Stories (2009, CIC Publishers, ISBN 0-9776503-8-3). With “The Mayan Magician,” this compilation’s lead story and namesake, Musgrave weaves a mystical tale of love, courage...

I've been thinking lately how fortunate a time it is to be a writer. I know, I know, I've been privy to all the despairing news when it comes to the publishing industry, but I equate this news to be growing pains for a business that needs to shake off its old modus operandi and catch up with the...

So in order to "get myself out there" and "be in the readers' eyes," I end up doing things that I bemoan and then enjoy.  I complain about driving to X, and then once at X, I have a good time.  I don't want to go to store Y, and then store Y's manager gives me a plate of cookies...

(Reposted from The Huffington Post) Michael Jackson died in the early afternoon on Thursday, June 25. I remember because my daughter texted the news to me from her summer college class about 2:45, when she was ostensibly listening to her professor. That’s not so remarkable. What is remarkable is...

I don't advocate spending untold time reading about books when authors should be spending more time writing books and then, secondarily, reading books. But with the excessive amount of news about books and the industry (and the 'creation') of books, it is helpful to find sites which offer...
