Yesterday, what I assume is my last Gourmet magazine arrived. I won't go over the ironic or symbolic nature of a turkey on the cover, but there it was Gourmet, a venerable magazine, canceled due to the stock market, the change in reading habits, the price of ink and paper.

The death of Gourmet magazine is a big, sucking wound for all those consultants advising the panicked print industry to go niche, baby, go niche. As though we haven't been hearing that since the 1980s.
