I have a fondness for the potential horror of hotels. I think I can probably blame that on my accidental (and incomplete) knowledge of the Donner Party that I acquired when younger. I didn't have all the details about the cabins the party tried to weather things out in, and having also read The...

When did words lose their original meaning and took on something totally different? I remember when "gay" meant exactly what it was suppose to mean: blithe, joyful, debonair, fun-loving, cheerful.  When did it become an euphemism for being homosexual?  And why was the word "gay" chosen?...

The next story in my trip through Night Shadows: Queer Horror was a reminder of just how varied horror could be. To begin with Lee Thomas and to move to Carsen Taite was a wonderful way to tip the reader off to this reality. In "The Zealous Advocate" we meet the sort of lawyer we know has to...

Earlier this week, I had a customer shut me down at work when I suggested a Diana Gabaldon book because - her words - of "the inclusion of a sodomite." Ever since the death of Jamie Hubley, I've promised myself I wouldn't side-step, so I asked her if she'd like me to find a clerk who wasn't gay...

Thank you, Jann Arden. Before anything else, I should say that. I had the distinct pleasure of seeing Jann Arden on Sunday night, and the performance was wonderful - she's such an amazingly engaging lady, and her discourse with the audience was freaking brilliant. So. Much. Fun. (And her little...

Where do they get these people? And once they find them, why don't they throw them back? A band of envious, hateful and spiteful misfits and malcontents inflate their pathos into bathos. If even just one of these creepy denizens actually is a mother, pity the poor children. The next thing you know...

Brian Farrey is one of my “Tweeps” (translation: Twitter pals). He’s also one of the four people who participated in (and, irritatingly, won) The Bet. Yet, bizarrely, these are not his main claims to fame. Some actually find it more important that he is the debut author of the terrific YA...
