August is in the books. We're closing the journals. We use a twelve month accounting period for our lives. Gas prices are up, as there is another refinery fire and increased demand. My benchmark Shell premium unleaded price is 4.47 USD, up 40 cents. It's not the town's highest or lowest prices....

There was a refinery fire at the Richmond Chevron plant. Premium gas prices at my local Shell station immediately went up twenty cents, pushing the price back up to 4.27 USD.   You feel for the people of Richmond, California, being ordered again to stay indoors and don't breath the air.  ...

June was a great month for gas prices to tumble in our area. My benchmarker fell below $4.00 a gallon for the first time in several months, dropping over eighty cents in that calendar space. They tell me refineries are back on line and producing, and inventories are up because demand is down, ergo...

It's the second of a new month. An update of gas prices and walking efforts is to be posted on the 1st of each month. I'm late, as usual. Walking has been super, warm weather encouraging me to walk more. Flip that over, though, since we have warm weather, sunshine and the growing season, yard and...

I've been tracking and commenting on local gas prices and my walking. These are my latest updates. Gas prices haven't changed. They dropped four cents per gallon on the first day of April and have stayed at $4.43 per gallon (premium) since then. That surprised me. Be interesting to see what happens...

Here is an excerpt from my op-ed in the Richmond Times-Dispatch. The link for the whole article is pasted below.   Whenever gas prices hit new highs, consumers demand action and politicians placate us with speeches and temporary solutions. But when prices decline a little, or when something...

Apocalypse! War! Rations! Raids! These words affect me like the ringing of Pavlov’s bell; and although I do not drool or crouch in a corner at the utterance of them, sometimes I come mighty close. I don’t know why I am this way. Perhaps it is my predilection for order. I like going to the grocery...

No more talk. No more posturing. No more filibusters and press conferences. America is broken. It’s time to cut through the rhetoric and take decisive action. Two weeks ago, I retreated to my woodsy cabin in the Montana foothills and mused upon the NINE greatest problems facing society today....

Summer Car Trips Joy, it’s summertime. People are once again filling gas tanks and hitting the road. Despite high gas prices, one can still get from here to there without breaking the bank. And I do hope you take the back roads occasionally. The good stuff hides there. Little old people on porches...
