Admittedly, it was none too early this morning when I saw a sight that I believe I have actually never seen, though it is fabled the world over.
Standing on the front stoop to test the air (and the air failed with its chill demeanour - it is a nice November day out there and not mid-May) I...

I didn’t intend for my “birthday celebration” to become prolonged. I turned 22 a few days ago, last 6 May. But since it was a Monday and I had midterms, I had to wait until the weekend to see my friends (whom I haven’t seen for about two years). This coincided with a meeting/casual talk I had with...

It had yellowed. I imagined the sun's rays gave it the hue. I would not have even looked at it, but as I peeled the foil off the glass-shaped container I saw a bit stuck to it.
I tilted the glass and took a large sip. That is when I sensed the foul smell as the bitterness spread in my mouth....

(Bonus points if you get the paraphrased reference in the subject line.)
I think I've probably said before that, in my time in Vancouver at graduate school, I can't say that I've missed St. Louis all that much. Yes, I miss Michael, and yes, I miss my dogs, as well as my friends there (and also my...

But hey. This morning, I drove to the nearest Bulk Barn , hoping that their spelt spaghetti was less...

The other Francis could talk to animals, but this one seems to have eaten a few. Until recently the Pope prepared his own meals, and everyone who does this knows it results in cooking too much food.
A rotund pope: that puts me at ease. He’s a modest man; when he was a cardinal he didn’t have a car...

I recently joined a group for those who, like myself, are passionate potluck people. It's my new professional organization.
I was going to make mandel bread, but on a whim decided to make mandel bread without the mandel. Instead of slivered almonds, I substituted cocoa, poppy seeds, and...

A few weeks ago, I was craving gingerbread, so I paid a visit to Crixa because its ginger cake is the most gingery cake I've tasted. It's so dense with ginger, ten years had passed since my last sampling.
When I walked in, I headed to the display case. I looked at the cake with longing. "...

I know . . . it kinda sounds like "Earth to Jane."
When my daughter was a camper and later, a boarding student at the Academy, I'd put down the back seats of my minivan and load it with cases of "kid food." Gummy bears, goldfish, M&M's, chewing gum, miniature chocolate bars, trail...
