Two weeks ago, we asked Red Roomers blog about the time they first wanted to become writers. We wanted to know if there was there a "flash" moment when they just knew, or has it always been true?
A few entries stood out:
Member Lisa Jensen has always wanted to write, and her memories of how she'...

When I was a teenager maybe fifteen or sixteen, I was asleep one night when this story came to me and I jumped out of bed in the middle of the night and started writing. I wrote for hours, and thats when I knew I really wanted to be a writer. Of couse back then I didnt have a computer so I had to...

It's a tricky question. When did you first know that you wanted to be a writer?
The honest truth is, I don't think a writer is something one 'wants to be'. It always seemed to me something one simply is. Writers are a different breed whose true, authentic selves are exposed only on the page....

I fell in love with poetry and creative writing in grade school. Early on I loved to read, always checking out the maximum number of books I could from our local library. And, I think I was in seventh grade when it just hit me. I wanted to be a writer, and I never veered from that ambition...

I wrote my very first piece when I was 10. It was a poem describing a fictional (yet very real) poor family. Though I grew up...

They say writer’s write. It’s been almost a month since I posted to my blog and I wonder if writers ever get distracted like I do or if distraction is just another convenient excuse. It’s not as if I abandoned writing altogether. I was invited to be a guest blogger for www.artsjournal....

For me, travel has always been an inspiration. Wherever I go, I find myself thinking of plots that could fit the particular setting I'm in. Incidentally, my desire to first become a writer surfaced before I had done any traveling at all.
I was sitting in a 7th grade English class in the city of...

That moment…. If my cousin hadn’t ditched me for one of her classmates, it might not have happened. Or, at least, it wouldn’t have happened then….
I was twelve, and my parents and I were at my aunt and uncle’s house on Long Island for for a typical Sunday afternoon visit and dinner....
