Who needs a social network to persuade her not to do any social networking? I do! I love all those websites that allow you to meet like-minded people, share embarrassing photos from high school, and talk up your book/album/organic bath products, etc. Too much. Which is why I'm going on a cyber-diet...

I have been busy all day with housekeeping details--they never end--and working on an article that was first started in 2007. It needs cutting, adding to, endnotes reworked, etc. For the most part, this is boring work. (Although sometimes I run into something new while checking out sources and then...

I've been informed that Facebook has backed off their new Terms of Service, reverting to the more previous limited-license arrangement with the caveat that archive copies will be kept on their servers. Copyright is retained by the originators of the content. This reversion to the original TOS is...

"I friended him." = 940 hits"I befriended him." = 628 hits
A story about Facebook on NPR this morning got me wondering whether "friend" as a transitive verb was poised to replace the word that has long done its job: "befriend."
Looks like it is.

Meanwhile, I have been tagged a few times on Facebook, asked to write a list about myself. So I set about writing my list this morning and...

I did it. I accomplished what I suggested Jessica Barksdale do. I deleted the people I do not know, or barely know, from Facebook. Now I have sixty-odd people I do enjoy, old friends, new friends I find sympatico, classmates I've not seen in over 30 years, or writers whose words I've come to...

I've been having fun reading the list of 25 Random Things about my friends, old and new, via Facebook and thought I would follow Katie Burke's lead and share mine with my fellow Red Roomers, as well. I hope it inspires you to share yours, too. I'd know I would enjoy reading the condensed version of...

I have 653 friends. 653 people whose daily occurrences, foibles, peccadilloes, and interests I read about. I can click into their lives, sorting through photos of their vacations, children, families, and daily lives. I read about their work and their play and their suffering and their joys. I know...
