I will tell you what I know of death and taxes: Each year as the filing deadline draws close, I am riddled with anxiety and die innumerable deaths, all of which precipitate a constellation of tragedies. Two weeks before tax day, I sit immobile, shackled. From under the fake bamboo laminate...

Death and taxes…    Doom and Gloom… Who can understand the Master Plan?  Inevitable as it may be…   To lie down in Green pastures … The filing status that all will succumb.  Exemptions will be considered…   In life’s trial and error… The refund is the reward of merit intended.  Yes, heavenly bliss...

Death you can count on.  With taxes, there's some wiggle room.  But I've always been too afraid to find out how much.  Every April 15th, I've paid what I owe the government or received back some of what I've already paid.  I accept nothing illegal under the table, though I deduct what I can deduct...

This week we lost our dear sweet Smudge. She was the third of our Elder cats that we lost in the last year. Now I know many people think of their animals as their children as we do, while others consider them just an animal. But it got me thinking on the importance of every life, be it human or a...

Like thousands of other gay families did, Em and I submitted fraudulent tax returns this weekend. We didn't mean to, didn't want to, but we had to. We are legally married, but we each filed as single taxpayers - as required by the IRS, which isn't allowed to recognize our marriage. It's one of the...

Recently I wrote a post that praised the philosopher Jamie Whyte for his clear thinking and rigorous logic. I cited, as an example, his recent interview on (UK) Radio Four, during which he made the case that progressive taxation was a unfair. Since then I've thought a lot about what he said,...

They say that the only things that are inevitable are death and taxes.  Here in New York state there is also taxing death, why not they tax everything else.  This is the time of year, Holy Week, when we celebrate the death and rising of Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior.  Unfortunately death has...
