Twenty years ago this summer, I walked a Paris runway for the first time in Elite’s Look of the Year in France, my first real exposure to the world of modeling. Somehow, at fifteen years old and standing five-foot-nine-and-one-half inches tall, I had been selected from a Midwestern small town to...

Recently, a concerned reader responded to one of my Facebook status updates where I posed a question wondering if Nancy Pelosi was being used as a distraction by the GOP. I believe the reader was genuine when she expressed a concern that I might be ticking off half of my reading public, even...

The first official review for The Third Sign is in (about which I was notified, anyway...I'm sure others will show up over time that I'm not initially aware of), and it's a good one--Andy Gray, host of the well-respected Beezer Review, weighed in yesterday with a four out of five star review of the...

When my friend Lisa invited me to the opening of "Freud and Rodin as collectors" in Paris, I had no idea attending would lead to a panic attack. The Rodin museum was crammed full of people when I arrived and spotted Lisa surrounded by a group of women analysts. When Lisa introduced me...

A writer's life can draw criticism from the losers of this world. I received this e-mail the other day:
To whom it may concern:
Let add to the chorus of one who criticized your book [The Joy of Not Working].
I don't take offense at your drift - I make less than $10,000 and am "retired"...

All I'm doing here is posting one great poem every day(not mine, obviously) and attempting to summarize the key elements that I think make the poem work....i.e. the kernel of what resonates, rather than how it's achieved - the assumption being that it is achieved via craft, beauty, music, imagery...
