I had another post ready. It has to wait. Yesterday I read an Associated Press article about the fortieth anniversary of Title IX. I wasn’t prepared for the emotions that overwhelmed me. Amazement–has it been that long? Regret because the legislation didn’t come sooner. Jubilation for the women who...

If childhood is considered up to twelve or so, my pickings are slim. One burned down, one is torn down and (come to think of it) one nearly burned down but was saved. That one was a flat over a service station/garage, which went alight in the wee hours. I remember nothing of the fire (unless that...

I do begin to think that somewhere along the line most authors are going to consider publishing an eBook. That too many folk are already taking this route is not an issue. I would much rather keep with a traditional publisher, but the technology might take us over. This is an up-to-date article...

It may be time for the media that covers the book business to stop publishing best seller lists. They are, in today’s book choosing environment, disorienting, unhelpful and confusing, a valiant but failed attempt to make sense out of disorder. For some time now the New York Times Book Review...

If you’ve been to NYC then you know you can find them, the vendors in Canal Street and set-up near subways selling “designer” merchandise.  Coach, Louis Vuitton, and Kate Spade styled handbags and accessories can be purchased for a bargain price if you don’t mind a modified label.  And...

Such power do we have. I, myself, have invented a word. It is an onomatopoeic word describing the expulsion of air from the anus. No, I am not going to share. I am holding it in.    * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * 'Swagger' and Other Everyday Words Invented by Famous Authors by Emily Temple...

Or is everything old, new again? Attention spans, and the willingness to read text which offers depth, seem to shorten and lessen. I sometimes think members of our culture are reverting to pre- printed word ways. Do we become more visual and aural? Then I think about FaceBook, Twitter and texting....
