Biography

Actress, author and activist, Annabelle Gurwitch lives and writes in Los Angeles California. You Say Tomato, I Say Shut Up, Annabelle’s comic memoir co- written with her husband comedy writer, Jeff Kahn, will be published by Crown on Valentine’s Day, 2010. Their book chronicles marriage in a raw, honest and humorous way that is sure to strike terror and laughter in the hearts of any couple, as well as every single man and woman who is contemplating the connubial state. They are performing stories from the book together, dates are listed on her web site at www.annabellegurwitch.com. She currently hosts the program, WA$TED, on The Planet Green Network, now in it’s second season.

Annabelle’s first book : Fired!, was deemed a “merry compendium of failure” by The Washington Post, was #1 on The New York Post Hot List and has been featured in media as varied as The Today Show, Fox and Friends, CNN, MSNBC, Talk of The Nation on NPR, Psychology Today, The New York Times, and People. Time Magazine cited Annabelle in their cover story “10 Ideas that are Changing the World” for her Fired! documentary film. Her film is currently in rotation on the Showtime and Sundance channels. She also toured the country with live performances of stories from the book and film.

She has been a columnist for The Nation Magazine and an NPR contributor since 2004 where her targets have been everything from politics to pop culture. Her essays appear in two anthologies: Note to Self (Simon Spotlight, 1/09) and Rejected (Villard, 1/09)..

Her TV work includes her six year stint on the cult favorite Dinner and a Movie for T.B.S. and hosting shows on The Style Channel, VH1, ABC, and HBO, and roles on Boston Legal, and Seinfeld. Her films include: Shaggy Dog and Melvin Goes to Dinner. Annabelle’s work off-Broadway in the title role of Murray Mednick’s Joe and Betty garnered her place in The New York Times Top Ten Performances in Theatre of the Year, 2002.

She attended the Experimental Theatre Wing of NYU. Jeff and Annabelle spend most of their time shuttling their eleven year old son to and from baseball games.
