the great waste

Issue/Publication: Belief in the Supreme Being is a fundamental universal axiom common to all the races of the world; the concept may vary from place to place but the belief is generally the same. In Europe during the middle ages, a section of Europeans began a program termed the enlightenment; in this program, the earlier belief on the Supreme Being as the cause and effect of things was abandoned and substituted with Nature. In the new order, Natural laws rather than a godly being was taken as being the cause and effect of mans experiences in the world and the origin of the universe. This new belief was responsible the rapid development of sciences and discoveries; At around that time, another group of European adventurers embarked on imperialist missions, when they came to Africa, they did not come with the new order but brought along with them a modified version of the old idea and the church. However before them, Islamic Saracen invaders had been around in Africa; the two exotic religions despite their apparent differences were essentially saying the same thing; unknown to these Africans who had no previous encounter with history Islam was just another offshoot of Christianity. To an average African at his time this was enough confirmation that the truth must lurk in between these two orders. Thus as Europe continued to grow and prosper, along the path of enlightenment, and the Middle East along the line of Faith, Africans had become stalled by the adoption of exotic religions. Today, leaders in Africa spend a lot of revenues on development of churches and mosques at the detriment of social, educational and human development.

Faith without works…piety without productivity is empty

A nation erect temples

Filling mosques to capacity

While schools dilapidates

Exotic scriptures are valued

While moulds eat deep

Into research manuscripts; what a waste

The progeny remain ignorant

Entangled into another slavery

Providence invites poverty not prosperity

There is none to check the drift

The strongest sons and our fairest daughters

Are useless to the land!
